6th Grade Language Arts and Social Studies
These two courses will provide students with an integrated experience in reading, writing, speaking, and historical analysis. By studying the historical concepts and patterns of ancient civilizations students will learn to meaningfully link the ancient past to their own lives. By understanding how the past has affected the way we live today, students may begin to explore modern global issues and prepare for their own futures. In this course students will:
These two courses will provide students with an integrated experience in reading, writing, speaking, and historical analysis. By studying the historical concepts and patterns of ancient civilizations students will learn to meaningfully link the ancient past to their own lives. By understanding how the past has affected the way we live today, students may begin to explore modern global issues and prepare for their own futures. In this course students will:
- Read and respond to novels, short stories, poetry, drama and non-fiction.
- Use the writing process to develop multi-paragraph essays - including narrative, response to literature, persuasive, and descriptive essays.
- Study, understand, and use new vocabulary.
- Organize, present, and evaluate individual and/or group presentations.
- Participate in non-verbal activities, such as journals and exams/quizzes.
- Study, analyze, compare, and reflect on ancient historical civilizations including Pre-History, Ancient Egypt, Hebrews, Greece, India, China, and Rome.
- Construct projects centered on historical events and/or literature.
- Use technology for word processing, PowerPoint presentations, publishing, researching, creating projects, movie-making, online educational learning communities such as My Big Campus, Edmodo, and more!
7th Grade Language Arts and World Geography
Through close reading, rhetorical analysis, discussion, research, collaborative Socratic discussions, and written response to selections of fiction, nonfiction, verse, drama and informational texts, this chronological survey course covers California Department of Education 7th grade reading, writing, speaking, and listening standards.
These two courses will provide you with an integrated experience in writing, English usage, literature, and Social Studies. You will:

- Research various topics and cite evidence from resources to support writing.
- Use the writing process to develop multi-paragraph essays, including narrative, response to literature, informative/explanatory, persuasive, argument, biographical, and descriptive essays.
- Study and use new vocabulary (determine meaning using context clues, provide synonyms/antonyms, etc.).
- Organize, present, and evaluate individual and/or group presentations.
- Participate in non-verbal activities, such as journals and exams/quizzes.
- Study, analyze, compare, and reflect on the geographic, political, economic, religious, and social structures of historical civilizations across the world, including those of the Roman Empire, Arabia, China, Africa, Japan, Medieval Europe, Mesoamerica, and Renaissance Europe.
- Participate in historical simulations to “put themselves in the shoes of” historical people.
- Construct projects and participate in PBL (Project-Based Learning) units centered on historical events and/or literature.
- Use technology for word processing, PowerPoint presentations, Google docs, publishing, researching, creating projects, movie-making, online educational learning communities such as Edmodo, My Big Campus, and more!
8th Grade Language Arts and US History

These two courses will provide students with an integrated experience in reading, writing, speaking, and historical analysis. By studying the historical concepts and patterns of ancient civilizations students will learn to meaningfully link the ancient past to their own lives. By understanding how the past has affected the way we live today, students may begin to explore modern global issues and prepare for their own futures. In this course students will:

- Study, analyze, compare, and reflect the different historic events including the founding of America, the first forms of government (the US Constitution and Bill of Rights), the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, and the Civil War. As well as covering the Industrial Revolution and the major inventions that have helped shape our current world.
